Someone asked Master Cheng Yen, “Master, you said that it is not enough to just hold back our anger. We must also “swallow” the anger and dissolve it. What can we do to achieve this?"
The Master answered:
Losing your temper happens instantaneously. As long as you change your perspective in that instant and drink Tzu Chi’s “Four Spiritual Ingredient Soup” i.e. practise contentment, gratitude, understanding and tolerance, your anger and grudges will naturally dissipate. If we are content and understanding, we will not always take issue with others. When we are grateful and tolerant, we will not get angry easily.
Everything and everyone around us are there to help build our character and (make us a better person). So, the answer to anger management is to regularly drink Tzu Chi’s “Four Spiritual Ingredient Soup” (by practising the values of contentment, gratitude, understanding and tolerance). When we do so, we will naturally feel at ease and at peace and live a delightful life.
