Someone asked Master Cheng Yen, “I am very emotional lately. I’m dissatisfied with a lot of things and unhappy with people in life. How do I overcome this?”
The Master answered:
When we are too emotional, we will become more and more narrow-minded. When our hearts and minds get smaller, there will be no more space in our hearts for others, and we will naturally encounter problems and troubles all the time. We will then feel miserable (due to conflicts that arise as we interact with one another).
Hence, we must cultivate a broad heart and not be self-centred all the time. When we are too full of ourselves, there will be no space for us to accommodate others. And we (should not be too self-righteous) and think that we are always right. If we do that, (others may not agree with us) and in their eyes, we would be wrong.
