Unique Stall Hidden in the Market Awaiting Your Visit

Once a month for more than six years, Tzu Chi volunteers have been seen at the Bukit Batok West Shopping Centre, running a stall to promote Jing Si products. While helming the little stall, volunteers also take the opportunity to share about Tzu Chi’s work with the public. Although the process of running the stall has been fraught with challenges, many good relationships have also been built, motivating the volunteers to press on.

At 7 am, Tzu Chi volunteers can be seen at the gradually crowded market. What are they doing?

Tzu Chi volunteer, Lin Shu Guo: It should have been six or seven years ago when I thought of promoting Master's products, I was also running my own business in the market. Thus, it was easy to let the public know about our products, and I could use this opportunity to share about Tzu Chi.

Tzu Chi volunteer: Hello, good morning; come and take a look at our Jing Si products. Experience the benefits of these sesame seeds; you will feel more energetic after taking. Thank you.

Setting up a stall to promote Jing Si products every month because of sales pressure? Actually, no!

Tzu Chi volunteer, Lee Oi Heng: It's pointless to sell more; they need to consume them, so I say if you don’t consume, don't buy. It's not about earning your money; I want you to consume and know the benefits.

Tzu Chi volunteer, Lin Shu Guo: It's about touching hearts; we've reached out to many kind-hearted people and I think we collected some bamboo banks just now.

Tzu Chi volunteer: Need to go vegetarian for a day, no problem? Be pious, at least for a day, but it is best if you can maintain for more days.

Wong Fee Chong has known Tzu Chi for more than 40 years but stopped halfway to take care of his family. He never expected to reconnect with Tzu Chi here. Although he has not been able to commit himself fully as a volunteer, he takes every opportunity to give back, such as donating to the bamboo bank and helping to promote Tzu Chi activities.

Member of public, Wong Fee Chong: When you commit wholeheartedly, you will understand what you should do and wish to do more.

Tzu Chi volunteer: We started this 10,000-people vegetarian diet campaign to protect the planet and spread kindness.

At this little stall, there is not only an exchange of goods and money but also more importantly, genuine interactions.

Tzu Chi volunteer, Yeo Ah Lin: Sometimes I do with so much Dharma joy that I can’t stop smiling inside.

Tzu Chi volunteer,  Lin Shu Guo: Maintain a playful attitude towards life, form good bonds with many people, and be filled with Dharma joy every day.
