The First Medical Camp in Buddha's Homeland!

As Tzu Chi volunteers continued rendering their care for the local residents in Lumbini, they will be assisting the National Kidney Centre and the International Buddhist Society to hold a three-day medical camp. Organising it for the first time in Lumbini, the volunteers encountered quite a number of challenges.

Services provided at the medical camp - nephrology, cardiology…

The 4WD vehicle equipped with a loudspeaker, shuttled through the streets and alleys to promote the medical camp to be held in three days.

Tzu Chi Singapore volunteer, Khoo Kean Yee: Mainly depends on the local culture here. In the past, we only relied on leaflets and banner. This time we thought of having a publicity vehicle to go into villages as it can reach far into all villages. This is to let them know that there will be a medical camp these few days so that more people can benefit.

Dental, acupuncture, we will all send to do the urine test.

The preparation work for this medical camp was jointly undertaken by Tzu Chi volunteers from Singapore and Malaysia. The preparation team prepared continuously for the medical camp after arriving.

Tzu Chi Singapore volunteer, Tan Siew Chin: In the past, we communicated online. After coming here, it is actually easier to carry out the whole preparation work. We need to rely on the local volunteers to prepare and do more coordination.

We need all your help during the period for the free clinic.

Since most of the locals can only speak their local language, in order to ensure a smooth consultation process, Tzu Chi volunteers held a briefing session at the school to recruit local volunteers.

Tzu Chi Malaysia volunteer, Sio Kee Hong: Previously the preparation team came here and formed good relationships with some of the local schools. We decided to combine the efforts and recruit teachers and students from these schools. The response was very good and many of these teachers or local volunteers and students are willing to come forward to cooperate with us.

Overcoming the various challenges one by one, everyone made full preparations for the medical camp, hoping that it can benefit the local people.
