Living Bodhisattva — Willy Ang

I have indeed experienced a lot in the past 10 years. I am grateful to Master Cheng Yen for paving a Bodhisattva path in this Saha world, giving everyone an opportunity to serve suffering people to the best of their abilities.

I can deeply feel the truth of “infinite Dharma-doors manifesting before me” when doing charity work. We see how many families are broken apart and how some people suffer from illnesses due to their bad habits as well as greed, anger, and ignorance.

During our prison visits, we came across a lot of inmates who are actually loving at heart, but ended up leading a difficult life and wasting a large part of their life in prison because they couldn’t overcome their ignorance and greed. Some even contracted illnesses that are hard to cure, such as Myocarditis. We not only provide medical assistance to them but also care for them. So we have built a positive rapport with them.

During our Flag day, we saw an old lady aged over 70 with a hunchback who was carrying a basket. She tossed 2 dollars into our donation box without any hesitation when she walked past our volunteers. The sight of it reminded me of the Jing Si Aphorism, “Giving is not exclusive to the rich, but something anyone with a compassionate heart can do”. Everyone has a kind heart. They will be able to contribute if given a chance.
