CEO of S’pore Buddhist Fed. Kua Soon Khe: During the most chaotic times in China, there was even such a person who worked to propagate the Dharma. We should all the more not retreat in our efforts.

Ven. Shi Guang Wei: He worked very hard for the sake of living beings and was selfless in his efforts. He truly brought honour to Buddhists.

Dharma Master Zhizhe founded the Tiantian tradition based on the Lotus Sutra. Tzu Chi Singapore held 3 sessions of a charity performance about the great Dharma master over 2 days at Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre. Around 2290 people attended the event, where they learned about his life story.

The 120 min performance was adapted from a 25-episode serial produced by Da Ai TV. The troupe from Tang Mei Yun Taiwanese Opera Company brought to life the inspiring story of Dharma Master Zhizhe, allowing the audience to witness how the precious Dharma was passed on.

Fo Guang Shan   Ven. Shi Miao Yu: After watching the performance, we must truly learn from Dharma Master Zhizhe. For the sake of the masses, we must really work harder to propagate the Dharma to benefit more people.

Local celebrity  Nick Shen: The Lotus Sutra is the “king” of all sutras. Every word in it represents a Buddha. We saw how Dharma Master Zhizhe single-mindedly pursued the Dharma. His determination truly serves as an example for us.   

Volunteer  Lin Shu Guo: After watching the performance, I really hope to finish reading the book about Master Zhizhe. By combining it with Master Cheng Yen’s talks on the Lotus Sutra, I can better understand how the Lotus Sutra is practised.

The head of Aixin Lovely Opera House, Lim Zi Jin, was filled with confidence after witnessing Tang Mei Yun’s determination in spreading the Dharma through drama.

Head of a local opera house   Lim Zi Jin: Tang Mei Yun is a national treasure. I can see how she truly works to spread the Dharma, so I told myself not to give up. We’re writing some stories about compassion and we shouldn’t give up no matter how difficult it is. 

We thank Master Cheng Yen for giving us a chance to portray the Dharma through Taiwanese opera. In fact, this stage adaptation of the story of Dharma Master Zhizhe in Singapore is the first of its kind in the world.

After the performance, Tang Mei Yun personally thanked the audience. Among them were many fans of Taiwanese opera who were delighted to see her in person. They also learned about a great Buddhist Master and the true Dharma. The performance has achieved its goal of propagating the Dharma.
