Volunteers Unite in Love to Accomplish a Solemn Dharma Service

The Buddha Day Celebration held by Tzu Chi Singapore at Bukit Gombak Stadium was attended by close to 4,000 people. Tzu Chi volunteers worked together with love to make this solemn Dharma service a success.

Boiling herbal tea for the volunteers using charcoal is an expression of Lee Hui Chuang’s love for the latter.

It is very hot to stay under the sun. I worry that people might catch the flu so I’ve made tea for them.

I’ve only contributed a little bit. The others have worked till they are all soaking in sweat.

I do not know how to do (what others are doing). So while (the volunteers prepare for the event, I warm their stomachs with my tea).

She even personally delivers the herbal tea to the venue, warming the hearts of the volunteers at the site of the Buddha Day Celebration.

It’s so hot and humid here. Luckily, we have herbal tea to drink.
The volunteers spend more than ten hours preparing for the solemn Buddha Day Celebration. They toil and sweat to set up the beautiful Buddha Bathing altars, nail the ground markings, clean up the venue, etc. Although it rains heavily midway, everyone continues working after a short break.

Previously, I used to arrive only when it was time to enter the group formation. Now, I realise that the volunteers in charge of cleaning up the venue have to be here very early to do all the cleaning work. I'm very touched by how everyone is working behind the scenes.

I saw many of the volunteers at work, be it the decoration team or the logistics team. Last time when I arrived for the ceremony, everything was already in place. This year, I see how everyone is soaked in sweat as they work. It is very touching.

Teo is still recovering from her knee surgery and is unable to stand for long. So she came to volunteer behind the scene and witnessed the hard work of other volunteers. Meanwhile, Chen Shu Chu who was in charge of the F&B team for many years has the opportunity to join the group formation this year.

We back each other up, which means helping each other. // I'm feeling hopeful and a little nervous at the same time. // For at least four years, I was in charge of the F&B team, so most of the time , I was working behind the scenes.

This is a solemn Buddha Day Celebration, where sincere piety is not only shown during the event, but in every action of the participants, too. Everyone has made the event a success with gratitude, respect and love.
