There was a king bird with five hundred pigeons foraging outside the city. By accident, the flock crossed the boundary and flew into the king's garden. When the king heard that a flock of pigeons had roosted in the garden, he thought to himself, "How rare it is to see five hundred pigeons together!" So, he ordered his servants to spread a net over the garden, so that when the birds took flight, they could catch them all.
The birds did not know that the king had cast a net. When they had finished resting and were ready to spread their wings and fly, the whole flock was caught in the net. The king happily instructed his servants, "Lock up this flock of birds, feed them brown rice every day, and when they are fattened up, I will slaughter them and feast with all the ministers."
The king of the birds, aware of the king's plan, sadly blamed himself and said, "It is because of my negligence in leading the flock into the king's garden by mistake that we are all caught in the cage. Soon, the king will fatten us up, and then every one of us will perish. What should I do?"
At that moment, the king's servant brought the rice to the birds, and the king of the birds had a bright idea. He quickly called out to the flock, "Everyone, if you want to survive, do not eat this rice!"
The other birds replied, "If we don't eat, we will surely starve to death! How can we stay alive like this?"
The king of the birds said, "There is a saying among humans: 'Birds die for food!' The king's plan is to fatten us up. If we continue to eat without thinking, our bodies will surely become fat, and the king will slaughter us for food. So, no matter what, we must endure these few days without eating. When we have lost weight, we may still have a chance to escape." The five hundred birds had always obeyed the king's orders, and they dutifully fasted.
Each day, the bird cage keeper brought plenty of brown rice, but it was clear that none of it had been touched. The king of the birds spent every day thinking about how to get all five hundred birds out of the cage safely. One day, he discovered a hole in the top of the cage and instructed everyone to peck at the cage every day. After several days, the hole grew larger, and the pigeons grew thinner. Finally, the five hundred pigeons, under the king bird's command, flew out of the hole without making a sound. The king bird looked at the empty cage and felt relieved. As he flew away from the cage, the five hundred birds followed him, soaring into the sky. At that moment, the sky echoed with joyful birds chirping.
In life, every action and thought must be carried out with vigilance; otherwise, if one neglects the rules of life and indulges in wrong behaviours, one may suffer untold misery. The mistakes and suffering we face in life often stem from a single thought. If you adhere to the rules, you will remain safe and free. If you remain prudent and cautious at all times, you can live a happy and peaceful life.
